A Beautiful Bathtub Can Change Everything!

Bathtubs1

A beautiful bathtub can change the way you think about your bathroom.

Bathtubs mix aesthetics and purpose more than almost any other bathroom element. Many people include a bathtub in their design plans just for the look, but think about how a bathtub can transform your bathroom into a relaxing, stress-relieving retreat where you can have a long soak with candles, music and a soothing beverage.

Be creative as well as practical when selecting a bathtub for your home. You can select from many styles of tubs from the most traditional – even a refinished antique tub! – to the most contemporary, and everything in between. And you’ll want to focus on the fixtures, which come in a variety of beautiful styles and finishes.

Functionality plays a part in your selection process too. Does someone in your home have mobility issues, needing help to get in and out of the tub? Does your tub also need to function as a shower? Would you like a whirlpool feature to soothe aching muscles or arthritic joints?

In terms of beauty, bathtubs give you a unique opportunity to mix surfaces – porcelain, metal, stone, tile, wood and more. Tubs can be freestanding or have a surround of various materials. And plan for plenty of towel racks so towels are convenient to access and dry quickly.

As far as additions to your bathtub design:

  • Position a tray across your bathtub to hold your soap, loofah, a book and a beverage.
  • Display potted plants around the tub; many of them like the moisture.
  • Add warmers in towel bars and under the floor.

Enhance your relationship with your bathroom with a fabulous new tub!

A beautiful bathroom helps you begin and end your days in luxury and comfort.

A beautiful bathroom helps you begin and end your days in luxury and comfort.

Make this important room into a personal retreat.

Most of us think about bathrooms in terms of function. And that’s the first need! In addition, consider your bathroom as a room of beauty and comfort! It’s not hard to change a drab bathroom into a luxurious cocoon.

For a calm, serene look and feel, use neutral colors, like white or off-white. If you’re looking for energy, select bold and bright colors, and consider coordinating an en-suite bathroom color scheme with the bedroom color.

Some obvious places to start your bathroom plan are:

  • A paint color that makes you feel pamperedbathroom3
  • An elegant vanity, maybe even a vintage table that’s repurposed
  • New countertops, backsplashes and sinks
  • Updated hardware, including faucets, pulls and handles, available in a variety of styles and finishes
  • Beautiful framed mirrors, instead of frameless wall-to-wall mirrors
  • Layered lighting that’s beautiful AND functional, and maybe even a skylight to bring in natural light

Redoing the shower or tub is a bigger project, but how much fun to create a luxurious bathing experience. This is a good place to spurge on finishes and hardware since you’ll enjoy them every day of the year.

Function is also key when updating a bathroom.

  • Use slip-resistant flooring.
  • Select finishes that are easy to clean and resistant to water, especially if you live in a humid environment.
  • Plan for as much storage as you need, so the bathroom never looks cluttered.
  • Include plenty of towel racks, so towels are easy to reach and have a chance to dry.
  • If you have space, include a place to sit, whether it’s a built-in bench or a movable chair or stool.

Are you ready to have a luxurious new retreat in your home? Focus on remodeling your bathroom this season!

Powering up your powder room will make a good first impression with guests.

Go big in this small room to make it the jewel box of your home.

Who doesn’t comment on a spectacular powder room when they visit friends or family? This is the bathroom to go

lavish on because it’s small. Plus it doesn’t have to be practical for everyday showering, storage and hanging of damp bath towels. It doesn’t get used much, and it’s the room that almost all your guests eventually see. So why not make it dramatic and bold?

Walls. Paint them in bold colors and use attention-getting finishes, such as shiny lacquer or faux marble. Or use beautiful wallpaper.

Sinks and faucets. Use a sink that’s unusual either because of its shape or its material, such as glass, marble, granite or metal. And consider sinks that are elevated above the vanity rather that set in.

The vanity. Use a piece of furniture as the vanity, maybe even an antique dressing table or bureau. Or don’t use a vanity at all. Instead go with a pedestal sink – since you don’t need storage space in the powder room!

Countertops. For countertops, think unique surfaces such as glass, marble, metal, concrete or select unique tile that will grab your visitors’ attention.

Speaking of tile. Don’t just tile the floor or countertops. Think about tiling the walls half way up or even all the way to the ceiling. Because most powder rooms are small, you can afford to go expensive on the materials you select, and sometimes you can pick up remnants for a fraction of their original cost.

Mirrors and lighting. No plain unframed, rectangular mirrors for a dazzling powder room. Think elaborate frames, interesting shapes and unusual sizes. And for the lighting, select something special too.

Be bold when you plan your powder room look. Redecorate it to become a room with “wow” potential!
